Useless NPP Cohorts on a mission of peddling falsehood in the Constituency

*NKWANTA SOUTH NDC CONDEMS AN ATTACK ON THE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT BY SOME NPP USELESS COHORTS*

The NDC in Nkwanta South have learnt with a deep shock the attempt by some Cohorts of the Hon. Deputy Regional Minister namely, Mr Felix Owusu -Gyimah, NPP party secretary in Nkwanta South, Mr Stephen Obikyenbi Jnr and Mr Asata Gabriel all of the New Patriotic Party in Nkwanta South.

The NDC party in Nkwanta South want to emphasis that, under no circumstance must they resort to useless release of the kind let alone talk of discredit any stakeholder with the NDC party with their bogus release.

The Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South,Dr Geoffrey Kini is a man of integrity who has so far demonstrated beyond the reasonable doubt that,he has come to save the people of his constituent.

He has since gained the admiration and recognition of his people around his Constituency and beyond.
Any attempt to paint black his hard earned reputation shall be fought with the last drop drop of our blood.

The unfounded allegations raised in the useless press release should be treated with a pinch of salt.

We the NDC in Nkwanta South want to put on record that,Mr Chairman Akamani Prosper lost his father at Amedzro which necessitated the party leadership including the Member of Parliament to attend the funeral in order to sysmpathize with the party Chairman and his bereaved family.

It must also be put on record that, donation of some items were made to the Ghanaians living in Amedzro which was organized under a broad day light.

We want to also express our disappointment in the individuals who blindly published the said release on social media.

The most ignorant amongst the said Cohorts of the Deputy Volta Regional Minister is Mr Felix Owusu -Gyimah

Mr Felix Owusu -Gyimah is the secretary of the NPP in Nkwanta South who has nothing better to offer his party but goes round to peddling falsehood against hard earned reputation of stakeholders.

The NDC in Nkwanta South wishes to send a word of caution to the cohorts of the Deputy Regional Minister namely, Mr Felix Owusu -Gyimah, Mr Stephen Obikyenbi Jnr and Mr Asata Gabriel to desist from unwarranted allegations but concentrate on what they have promised the good people of the country.

We also want to send a stringent warning to any individual who might want to destroy the hard earned reputation of the member of parliament for Nkwanta South,Dr Geoffrey Kini and the NDC in Nkwanta South.

TAX INCREMENT ARE SIGNS OF MISMANAGEMENT AND INCOMPETENCE

The eyes of the crab may look like match sticks, but they are certainly not.

We, the *Coalition for Democratic Governance  (CDG)* wish to sound a very stern warning to President Nana Akufo Addo, his Vice Dr Mahamadu Bawumia and their advisors that, we will not allow them to impose their their super incompetence as an economic burden and hardship on the good citizens of Ghana. Enough is enough.

The humility of the Ghanaian must never be misinterpreted for cowardice.

We will like to borrow from the Latin expression in the proverb; *Praemonitus, praemunitus,* which translated into English means; *forewarned is forearmed.* The purpose of knowledge in advance is to enable one to be prepared very well in advanced. If in the abundance of this caution government is now groping in the dark and inflicting pain on it's citizens as the solution or answers for its self inflicted problems, then government is either hopelessly and incurably incompetent and insensitive or all of the above.
When in it's inordinate quest for political power the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential Canada and his running mate made all the ludicrous and unrealistic promises to the electorate, they were warned.

The people of Ghana can still remember like yesterday, when John Dramani Mahama, addressing the intellectual community at the University of Ghana- Legon, told his audience that, it was not economically sustainable to promise freebies, increased public expenditure whilst at the same time promising tax cuts with a pledge not to borrow.
The response from Dr Bawumia and his NPP was that, *"........Mahama is incompetent. I worked at the Bank of Ghana and I know where the money is. We don't need to tax the people......"* they even went ahead to say *"...taxation is the lazy man's option......"*

To make matters worse, soon after coming to office, they appointed the largest government ever.

If they have difficulties fixing the situation, let them sit up and think through the solution properly rather than attempting to impose any form of incompetence on us.

Let them be told that the Ghanaian is so terribly disappointed in them for doing the exact opposite of what they stood for in opposition. In fact, they've so far done worse than the NDC government that they criticize and wrestled power from. Let them be told that Ghanaians are not fools.

Today in government, the NPP government that said they'll not borrow have borrowed more than the drunken _brokeman_. But because the citizenry have kept quiet, their silence has been interpreted by this super incompetent government as weakness.

They're now trying to impose killer taxes on us to finance their profligate corrupt empire of family and friends government and senseless political projects that they were foretold are not sustainable. Why are they not interested in cutting down on the expenditure: the waste, the superfluous and obese government, the bloated contracts, the doling out of cash for frivolous purposes like the payments made by NHIS to train NPP communicators, needless contractual payouts but are stealth bent on taxing the poor and suffering people to generate money? This is akin to squeezing water from stone. Don't they know where the money is any longer? Why has Dr Bawumia all of a sudden gone mute? Is he missing his brain?

In prudent financial management, if you're unable to raise the required funds to match your expenditure, one of the options to resolve the problem is to cut down on expenditure to match revenue. Simply put, cut your coat according to your cloth.

If we may ask, between John Dramani Mahama and Dr Bawumia, who is better qualified to be described as an economist. NPP has failed abysmally and we urge them to beat a retreat and do the needful by withdrawing all the taxes and seek other options as advised. We call on the civil society to help protect the ordinary Ghanian who is struggling to eke out a living from the callous hands of this brutish and insensitive regime. We fully agree with Franklin Cudjoe of IMANI Africa that, "this government must not be allowed even 1% increase in taxation." They should review their expenditure.

Abdallah Ali-Nakyea, a tax expert agrees with us on these points:

1. Reduce the abnormal size of government machinery
2. Stop increasing the financial burdens of tax payers for non-essential political projects, and focus on urgent critical national projects

3. Subject the Ministries to strict expenditure reviews, and curtail Ministers' political projects.

4. Reduce fuel usage and other expenditures by non-critical government appointees.

The corruption, mismanagement and misuse of public funds within this 18 month period has been phenomenal.
We'll all be spared of the burden of this harsh regime if government is minded to respond positively to all the concerns raised here and elsewhere

PRESS STATEMENT BY CDG

*Coalition  For Democratic Governance (CDG)*

*For immediate release*

*Press Release*
14/07/2018

*ANY INCREASE IN VAT WILL  BE SUICIDAL IN THE CURRENT ECONOMIC HARDSHIPS*

Coalition For Democratic Governance has learnt with great shock the intention of government to increase Taxes in the coming days. Government in its budget review, plans to hike the rate of tax by as much as from 17.5% to 21.5%.

In as much as no formal announcement has been made to this effect, we know there is a mid year budget review coming up and leading members of both party and government have in recent times been making statements ostensibly to prepare the minds of Ghanaians to accept these obnoxious, wicked and burdensome tax policies to be imposed on an already suffering population and a suffocating business environment.

It must be noted that, Value Added Tax (VAT)
is a consumption tax that appears to punish the consumer for his consumption behavior in government's quest to raise tax revenue. This is a very weak and poorly conceived policy choice that leads to an escalation of the prices of goods and services in the economy.

In an economy where the prices of goods and services are already on the ascendancy, workers incomes remained the same, their purchasing power effectively depreciated, the worse government can do to them is to leave them in their current situation instead of seeking to punish them further.

Gabby  Asare -Otchere Darko, a leading  member of the ruling  government in a Facebook post appealed to Ghanaians *''will you support a VAT increase to keep your light on, your secondary school filled, your school kids fed, your street clean, your street safe, young graduate employed and a descent affordable homes built for working families''*

There can be nothing more offensive and insulting to Ghanaians than what Gabby wrote.

1. Let Mr. Gabby Asare Otchere Darko be told that, Ghanaians are not enjoying electricity for free, warranting the payment of taxes to maintain its provision. Fact is that, we have all been paying our electricity bills at commercial rates. What is therefore the justification to call on us to pay additional taxes for electricity if it is not grand scheme designed to enrich the private concessionaire to which ECG was recently sold.

2. To the extent that VAT is a consumption tax, it means that, even none workers are liable. Gabby Asare Darko wants none workers to contribute/pay VAT to build affordable houses for the working population? How more insensitive could he be.

3. This Government came in on the campaign of Ghanaians being overtaxed and that, they're going to *"move from taxation to production"*. They then went ahead to classify some taxes as nuisance and abolished same accordingly. Government must show policy coherence and consistency. If their their propaganda tax policy policy statement contained in the Asempa Budget has failed, they should publicly eat the humble pie. Even then, we will advice them to reinstate those so-called nuisance taxes which Ghanaians were already used to before NPP came to office. They should reinstate the Abosey Okai taxes.

4. Government must immediately end the spectre of tax exemptions. You can't exempt very rich companies, including multinationals in the mining sector and turn round to tax poor people.

5. When government genuinely needs to tax its citizens for developmental purposes and wishes to have the populace behind it, the way to go is not the kind of offensive Facebook post by Gabby Asare Darko. It must be seen to be showing goodwill in its own policies.

How can you recruit and maintain an unreasonably large army of family and friends at the presidency with an unprecedented 110 ministers paying all of them enhanced remunerations and turn round to tell the citizens there is no money? CDG wishes to call on Government to drastically reduce the size of the government to save the countries scarce resources. CDG does not see the need and usefulness of all the appointees.

6. The current leadership argued in opposition that, they'll cut down on the waste and corruption in the system to free up resources for development. Corruption and waste now appear to be on the ascendancy. You don't justify taxation under this circumstances.

CDG is shocked to see that, a party that campaigned, saying that it was lazy man's governance style to tax its way to governance, that they know where the money is, and will not tax Ghanaians, all of a sudden can't find the money and are resorting in this desperate manner to taxation. We shudder to think that Ghanaians were deceived and hoodwinked into voting for the Nana Addo and Bawumia government.

If the Nana Addo-Bawumia led NPP government refuse to heed, Ghanaians are ready to vehemently resist their autocratic leadership.

In conclusion, CDG shall lead Ghanaians to hit the streets should such suicidal killer taxes be introduced.

Signed
